OPP respond to “close call” on Lake Erie

Ontario Provincial Police are reminding people of the importance of life jackets when going out into the water.

This comes after officers were called to Lake Erie on Tuesday afternoon.

Four young people on two paddle boards had drifted out in the lake.

A witness called police saying the four were struggling to get back to shore near Selkirk.

They were not wearing life jackets.

The four managed to make it back to shore before emergency crews arrived.

They were okay but shaken up from the ordeal.

OPP say people should always wear an approved personal flotation device or life jacket, regardless of swimming ability.

They say conditions can change so quickly on the lake and people could easily find themselves in a dangerous situation.
