It was a very special birthday for a Hamilton man who turned 100 today.

Joseph Sidoruk was born in Ukraine when it was occupied by Poland after the first world war. Predicting a second world war, his father then helped him move to avoid the fight. That is when he arrived in Hamilton.

Joseph says he saved 90 cents on every dollar he made until he had enough to buy a small peach farm in Stoney Creek. He eventually turned over a small fortune thanks to the farm and says he couldn’t be happier to have his family celebrating with him here in Canada.

After all his years Joseph wants everyone to know that the best advice is that “one mans junk is another man’s treasure”
