OPP says First Nation demonstrators have agreed to remove barricades

The Ontario Provincial Police say that First Nation demonstrators have agreed to remove the barricades at Argyle Street in Caledonia.

However, according to Six Nations protesters the Ontario Provincial Police gave them an “unrealistic timeline” to remove barricades on Argyle Street in Caledonia yesterday. They say they have a removing process that “respects the safety concerns of our community”.

Last night, the OPP gave our community an ultimatum, creating arguments and division amongst our people. We are in the process of trying to maintain our relationships and safety while facing more threats today. The OPPs unrealistic timelines only place our people in harm’s way

Skyler Williams, who runs 1492LBL, told CHCH News that the OPP gave them an ultimatum at 5:30 p.m. saying they had only two hours to remove the remaining barricades.

In response to the allegations, OPP Constable Rod Leclair says that the demonstrators requested more time and the OPP offered their assistance.

Leclair says that they do not know when the demonstrators will remove the barricades but that the two sides are looking for a peaceful resolution.
