St. Catharines has limited its beaches to Niagara residents only.

Temporary restrictions are now in effect to try to control overcrowding.

Beach-goers 18 and older will have to provide proof of residence.

That could be government issued ID, vehicle registration or Brock University and Niagara College student cards.

This is in place at Sunset Beach, Jones Beach and Lakeside Park.

Beaches will be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

City officials say they will be enforcing physical distancing and keeping groups to ten or fewer.

The restrictions coincide with increased fines for illegal parking in beach areas.
