The Greater Toronto Airport Authority is slashing jobs at Pearson Airport amid COVID-19.

The GTAA is eliminating 500 positions – or 27 per cent of its workforce – because of a reduction of traffic at the airport.

Passenger levels at Pearson have fallen to 1996 operating levels since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Of the 500 positions, 300 will involve layoffs and voluntary departures.

The rest of the positions are currently vacant.

The GTAA says some of the cuts are effective Tuesday and employee departures will continue through the fall.
