Woman killed outside Sofina Food plant in Burlington

Halton Police say a woman has been struck and killed by a truck in Burlington.
It happened outside the Sofina Foods facility at Harvester Rd. and Appleby Line around 10 a.m. on Friday.
The woman in her 60s was hit by a truck carrying pigs for slaughter.
Witnesses say she was protesting outside the facility.
The animal rights group Toronto Pig Save is regularly outside the plant.
On hot days, protesters will give water to pigs as they are taken in for processing.

In 2015, one of the group’s founders Anita Krajnc was arrested while giving the animals water.
She was found not guilty of criminal mischief.
Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has dash cam footage to contact them.
