Opposition against latest COVID-19 legislation

The main opposition parties appear united against the government’s latest piece of emergency legislation that would extend COVID-19 aid programs to disabled Canadians and seasonal workers.

Bloc leader Yves-Francois Blanchet believes the Liberals are trying to pass controversial penalties for anyone fraudulently claiming the Canada Emergency Response Benefit by attaching it to the legislation.

Blanchet compares it to “putting cod-liver oil in chocolate cake.”

The Liberals need unanimous consent from all MPs in the House of Commons to allow the bill to be debated today.

However, at this point, that doesn’t seem likely.
