Hamilton police have arrested and charged a Hamilton man in connection with the murder of David Stevens.

Police say in January, 46-year-old Stevens was shot through his door inside his apartment at 21 Harvey St. in Hamilton.

Video showed three people kick in the front door of the Harvey St. rooming house and were seen leaving 30 seconds later.

When police and paramedics arrived minutes later, Stevens was unresponsive and taken to Hamilton General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigation revealed that Stevens was not the intended target of the shooting.

The three men fled the area in a silver or grey-coloured 2015 or older, four-door Chevrolet Cruze – plate number: BKXP 727.

Police are still looking for the vehicle, which they say was likely stolen from Brantford on the night of the murder.

Police charged 23-year-old Shajjad Idrish of Stoney Creek with first-degree murder in connection with the incident.

Police say Idrish was arrested by Brantford police in February for the murder of Jason Kossatz and the attempted murder of two other people on February 8 at the Galaxy motel on Colborne St. in Brantford.

In March, a 19-year-old Hamilton man was arrested for the murder of Stevens.

The man was released unconditionally after being interviewed by police, however he remains a suspect in the ongoing investigation.

In April, police interviewed a 20-year-old Hamilton man believed to be the third suspect involved in the shooting.

Police say both suspects have been informed of their status in the case.
