Hamilton police say firearms and “controlled substances” have been seized following an assault investigation in the city.

Police were called to a disturbance on the front lawn of a home in the area of King St. and Gage Ave. near East Bend Ave. South around 11 p.m. Tuesday.

Investigators say there were reports of people fighting outside and someone said there was a gun.

Police say a group of men went back inside the home after the alleged fight.

A large police presence could be seen surrounding the home throughout the night and residents were asked to avoid the area.

During the ordeal, the Emergency Response Unit was called in and officers could be heard trying to negotiate with the people inside the home over a loud speaker.

Police say a search warrant was granted around 7 a.m. Wednesday and tactical officers entered the home where they discovered the guns, controlled substances as well as evidence of an assault.

“The two victims injured during the assault did not require medical attention and are expected to make a full recovery,” said police in news release.

They say criminally charges are expected to be laid.

The investigation remains ongoing with police holding the scene. Officers will be conducting interviews throughout Wednesday.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Sgt. Ben Thibodeau at 905-546-2907.
