‘Significant fire’ rips through Ancaster home, causes $1.5M in damage

A massive fire has ripped through an Ancaster home and spread to a neighbouring house, causing $1.5 million in damage.
Emergency crews were called to a blaze at 61 Symphony Place around 6:45 p.m. Thursday.
Firefighters arrived to find a “well-involved” structure fire that partially collapsed the roof of the house.
A car that was in the driveway and another vehicle that was in the garage were both completely destroyed.
The blaze was upgraded to a multiple alarm and additional units were called in to assist.
The fire spread to a neighbouring house but all residents were able to get out safely.
“This was a significant fire when you have two houses side by side that were well involved at one time,” said Dave Cunliffe, Hamilton Fire Chief.
Cunliffe said the first home was heavily damaged while crews managed to save a large portion of the second house.
Fire crews were on scene for several hours trying to gain control of the main fire.
No injuries have been reported at this time.
The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office has been notified due to the amount of damage.
