VIDEO: Tire flies off car near Brantford 403, narrowly missing driver

WATCH: The harrowing moment a loose tire narrowly misses a driver on Highway 403 near Brantford.

A driver’s quick thinking may have saved his life.

Jamie Fortier was driving along a stretch of Highway 403 in Brantford Tuesday, when a tire flew off a vehicle and headed straight for his car.

Dash camera video captured the incident as he and a female passenger drove along in the rightmost lane.

Suddenly, a bouncing tire skips over the median just as they near an underpass. Fortier yanks the wheel and noses the car into the passing lane, the tire narrowly passing by the passenger side of his vehicle.

“Oh my god,” the female passenger yells, before she laughs with relief. “Was the camera on?”

Brant OPP Const. Jonathan Bueckert called the footage terrifying: “That was some really great defensive driving.”

It remains unclear what caused the tire to come loose, but authorities say no reports came in following the incident.

No charges have been laid at this time.
