Fort Erie man suffers life-altering injuries after being ‘intentionally struck by SUV’: police

Niagara police have arrested a 33-year-old man from Fort Erie after he allegedly used his SUV to run over someone he had been arguing with.
According to reports, police were called out to a residence near Dufferin Street and Central Avenue on Monday just before 2 a.m.
When they arrived, emergency responders found a man in his 30s in critical condition.
He was initially treated locally but was later moved to an out-of-region hospital, where investigators say he remains “in serious but stable condition with life-altering injuries.”
Detectives believe the incident was the result of an argument between the two that began inside the Dufferin Street home.

During the spat, the two stepped outside, where their altercation continued to escalate before the driver entered a 2021 Chevrolet Traverse and drove over the victim.
Authorities found the driver at his home near Bowden Street and Prow Avenue, where he was taken into custody and his vehicle held, pending a search warrant.
Police say they have arrested and charged 33-year-old Moses Balabyekkubo of Fort Erie with several offences, including aggravated assault, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm and failure to stop after an accident.
In addition to the three criminal code offences, he faces six more offences under Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act.
Balabyekkubo was held in custody and had a bail hearing at a St. Catharines court on Monday.
“At the conclusion of the bail hearing, Balabyekkubo was ordered to be held in custody. His next court date is Feb. 15, 2024,” reads the police report.
