Former U.S. president Donald Trump is under fire after saying at a campaign rally over the weekend that if re-elected, he would not protect NATO allies unless they pay their share in defence funds – even suggesting he’d urge Russia to attack them.

As he campaigns for the Republican nomination, Trump remains skeptical of organizations like NATO, complaining about the billions the U.S. spends on the military alliance.

His comments are not sitting well with top European officials today.
