Warm weather has people in Niagara enjoying the sunshine while it lasts

Temperatures remained high off of Friday’s record-highs and while families and friends were out enjoying the weather in Niagara, they also raised concerns about the unusual warmth for February.

Robert Moen spent his Saturday morning basking in the sunshine at Lincoln’s Hilary Bald Park alongside his two children, Jackson and Lilly.

“It’s a little freaky that it’s quite as warm as it is in February but it’s enjoyable that it’s at least sunny,” said Moen.

While Jackson was happy to be out riding on his rollerblades and scooter around the park, Lilly says she misses the snow.

At the park’s ice rink, no one is skating and the ice has even begun melting.

Over at the nearby Rockway Conservation Area, hikers are also enjoying the sunny weather, but some raised concerns that it’s too warm for February.

CHCH News’ weather specialist Shelly Marriage says to enjoy the weather for now because there’s the potential for some more real winter weather before spring really hits.

Last year, much of the winter snow came in March, says Marriage, so the warm weather may not mean an early spring after all.

Amanda Ciardullo is taking advantage of the warm spell, hiking with friends at Rockway. She says her hike this time last year looked a little different, but she’s not complaining.

“Last year I was winter hiking in the snow with poles and winter boots and today it’s spring hiking,” she says.
