Crews battle blaze at abandoned house in Stoney Creek

Crews were called out to a house fire in Stoney Creek Monday evening.

Authorities believe the home was abandoned and unoccupied and have yet to determine its cause.

Emergency personnel first arrived shortly before 6 p.m. and were on the scene for several hours.

Police had closed down part of Barton Street, between Dewitt Road and Fruitland Road — but have since reopened the area.

Footage of the incident captured flames coming out of the roof.

Early reports indicate the home sustained heavy damage.
