Fire causes $250K in damages to Oakville home

A house fire in Oakville has caused an estimated $250,000 in damages.
Emergency services were called out to a home near Nena Crescent and Kestell Boulevard just after 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Two people who were inside the house managed to escape without injuries, along with their pet cat.
There was concern a third cat was trapped in the basement of the home, but fire officials located the animal on the living room couch as if nothing had happened while clearing the residence, according to officials.
While authorities are ballparking there to be around $250,000 in damages, they say most of the house is okay and that most of the damage to the residence was contained to the garage and the bedroom above it.
Additionally, two vehicles in the driveway of the home sustained heavy heat damage.

While neighbouring homes had to be evacuated, crews prevented them from sustaining any damage by soaking them with water upon their initial arrival.
A city bus was called to keep the displaced residents warm.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
Reports indicate that the fire began in the garage before spreading to the house and then two vehicles in the residence’s driveway.
