Authorities from across the city responded to a multiple-alarm fire in central Hamilton Monday afternoon.

No one was injured, but five people were displaced from the 5-unit apartment at the corner of Robert Street and West Avenue North.

Officials are estimating there to be upwards of $300,000 in damages to the two adjacent properties.

Fire crews were called to the area around 4:13 p.m.

When officials arrived, they reported heavy smoke and visible flames coming from the rear of the home.

Given the close proximity of the neighbouring houses, the call was upgraded to a multiple-alarm fire, prompting a city-wide response.

Officials say they had the fire under control in 15 minutes before it was able to spread throughout the community.

In his report released Monday evening, Hamilton’s fire chief David Cunliff, said that the fire originated in a shed at the rear of a property at 208 West Avenue before spreading to the deck of the house and a fence before finally reaching the main structure.
