Unifor aviation workers to demonstrate at Pearson Airport for better working conditions

Aviation workers represented by Unifor are staging a rally at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport Monday, marking a Day of Action to advocate for better working and traveling conditions within the industry.

The issues voiced by Unifor members include low wages, unpredictable hours, the necessity of holding multiple part-time jobs to meet financial needs, harassment and more.

Unifor says these challenges are faced by thousands of air transport workers at airports nationwide.

The union says these issues are wreaking havoc across the industry causing a worker attraction and retention across the aviation sector.

Frontline aviation workers will be distributing leaflets at Pearson International (Terminal one outside of domestic departures) from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. to raise awareness of the Charter of Rights.

Their goal is to also encourage the public to sign a petition calling for decisive action from both the government and the industry to address the challenges faced by workers.

Unifor President Lana Payne will also be present to provide remarks.
