Mohawk College president Ron McKerlie to leave by next year

Mohawk College’s president and CEO Ron McKerlie says he will be leaving the college once his current five-year contract expires on July 31 next year.

McKerlie became Mohawk’s eighth president on Aug. 5, 2014. The college saw several achievements during his time as president.

This includes the Joyce Centre for Partnership and Innovation which is Canada’s first building to receive the zero carbon building certification for design and performance.

Some other achievements are the creation of spaces to nurture Indigenous awareness and learning, partnerships with McMaster University’s medical imaging centre, expanding the college campus to Mississauga and creating an aviation technology campus at Hamilton International Airport.

The college said in a press release Thursday that its board of governors will begin a formal search process to select McKerlie’s replacement and a selection committee comprised of representatives from the college and foundation boards will begin this fall.

If his replacement is chosen before July 31, 2024, McKerlie will continue to assist an orderly transition until the end of July 2024 in an advisory role.
