Hamilton launches Indigenous health strategy to improve health services

The City of Hamilton has launched its first Indigenous health strategy, which aims to improve the health and well-being of Indigenous people, and reduce health disparities.
The collaborative process began with Hamilton Public Health services interviewing and surveying with Indigenous leaders and community members.
They identified many for growth, including: traditional healing and wellness, mental health supports and access to housing, along with diabetes teachings and support.

The results also underscore the importance of self-determination and cultural safety.
A detailed implementation plan of the strategy will be presented to council at the end of 2024.
