Hamilton paramedics say a young boy nearly drowned Wednesday at Wild Waterworks.

Supt. Dave Thompson says emergency services responded to the water park shortly after noon for reports of a possible drowning in the deep end of the wave pool.

A boy who is believed to be 11 was taken to hospital in serious, but stable condition. Paramedics say he was speaking to them on the way to hospital.

A spokesperson for Hamilton Conservation Authority says the wave pool was closed for some time Wednesday afternoon, but it has since reopened.

An update on the condition of the boy Thursday has not yet been provided.

“The safety and well-being of our patrons and employees is our first priority in our operations, and we hope the patron and their family are recovering and doing well after this incident,” said Sarah Gauden, marketing and events manager at Hamilton Conservation Authority.
