Ontario invests $2.6M in employment training for new immigrants

Minister of Labour and Immigration Monte McNaughton announced Tuesday that the Ontario government will be investing $2.6 million into job training for new immigrants to the province.
The investment will allow for the development of four free training projects to help more than 300 newcomers to the province, including those displaced from Afghanistan and Ukraine, to develop the skills necessary to find “meaningful jobs” with local employers.
The project aims to prepare jobseekers for careers across the sectors of manufacturing, finance, administration, communications, hospitality and the arts.

Participants will have the opportunity to explore a variety of employment and training options through paid internships, job placements, language training and digital literacy courses.
Tailored support in areas such as resume writing and interview skills will be available all with the goal of finding and retaining long-term employment.
For those arriving from Afghanistan and Ukraine, training will be available in Ottawa, Toronto and Hamilton as well as online. The training delivered will match the skills of participants to the needs of employer’s hiring in their communities.
