Halton police arrest Etobicoke man, recover 10 cloned vehicles

A man from Etobicoke has been arrested and is now facing multiple charges after Halton police recovered 10 stolen vehicles.

During the course of the investigation, dubbed “Project VINcent,” the force identified an organized vehicle theft ring in Halton and the GTA.

Police say the suspects registered fake or cloned VINs with the Ministry of Transportation.

Once the documents were registered, the suspects put the new VINs on stolen vehicles and sold them to buyers who were unaware of the scheme.

Fabricio Calderon, 47, of Etobicoke was arrested Thursday and is facing multiple charges including 25 counts of uttering a forged document, 22 counts of possession of a counterfeit mark and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Police say Calderon was held in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
