Road closures are in effect after a vehicle crashed into a house in Hamilton, causing a gas leak which resulted in the evacuation of nearby residents.

Hamilton firefighters responded to reports of a natural gas metre being struck by a vehicle just before 6 a.m. Friday at Sanford Ave. North and Cannon St. East.

Upon arrival, fire crews say residents in the immediate area were asked to evacuate their homes and the area was restricted to emergency crews only.

Crews remain at the scene awaiting to ensure all the gas is shut off and rendered.
