CHCH News reporter Jason Gaidola spoke to the shop owners, who survived the vicious attack and they recount their horrifying experience.
“They say ‘you move, you die here tonight.’ I was so scared, I have a family I don’t want to fight,” Hess Variety owners Ken and Fenny Lin say they did all they could do to survive a machete attack during a robbery in their corner store Saturday, Feb. 18.
The Lin’s say it was around 10:30 p.m. the night of the attack when two people in disguise came in with a blade and a taser demanding money and cigarettes.
Ken says one man then swung the machete, cutting his hand and shoulder. Moments later, Fenny and her mother arrived only to be attacked and tased by a man and a woman. The suspects then fled the store in a dark coloured sedan.
Fenny now has 20 staples in her head and burns from the taser. Ken has a cast on his right hand and stitches on his shoulder.
Hamilton police say 33-year-old Brandon Andres Omardeen and 39-year-old Monifa Chimmere Clarke of Niagara Falls have been charged in two separate robberies including Hess Variety. Police say 25-year-old Tanika Karen Galloway is at large. Lin believes Galloway was the woman in the store.
Police wouldn’t say if Galloway was one of the two inside Hess Variety. They say one of the two arrested were released on conditions. The Lin’s continue to run their store while trying to recover from the horrific injuries.
