A 12-year-old boy from Mount Pleasant has made it his mission to rescue animals.
It all started with a puppy named “Karma”. The mixed-breed rescue was Will Finch’s first dog when he was seven.
Just a few weeks later, it died of Canine Parvo, a contagious virus with a high mortality rate.
Will told CHCH “I didn’t see the good karma in her dying, but I realized that when we brought her out of her household with her other siblings, we saved those puppies.”
For his eighth birthday Will asked for donations to help animals. Soon after Will, his sister Jada, and their parents launched “Good Will, Good Karma” to raise awareness and gather supplies and money to help rescued animals.
Their house is now a place where they foster animals that are about to meet their forever homes.
The family figure they’ve helped around 400 to 500 animals every year, but in the end there’s too many to count.
Will’s mom says saving unwanted animals is a daunting task and it couldn’t be done without the support of vets, volunteers and the community.
Every year Will holds a fundraiser for his birthday, just like the first one years ago. And every single person who donates can expect to receive a hand written thank you note from Will himself.
As for the future, Will says he’s going to continue his passion of helping animals by becoming a veterinarian.
