Family and community members are set to gather Wednesday evening to honour one of the men fatally shot by an active shooter Monday.

The memorial for Shakeel Ashraf will take place around 6:30 p.m. at the Islamic Community Centre of Milton.

There will also be a funeral for Ashraf at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Meadowvale Cemetery.

Ashraf was shot and killed Monday at the auto shop he owned called MK Auto Body Repairs.

He is being remembered as an active member of the community, a devoted family man and an avid cricket player. Ashraf leaves behind his wife and two daughters.

Toronto Police Const. Andrew Hong, 48, was also killed Monday in the series of shootings across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.

Hong was in Mississauga Monday for a training session and was on his lunch break, when he was shot at close range, police said.

The 22-year veteran with the Toronto force worked with a highly specialized motorcycle unit that provides security escorts for dignitaries like prime ministers and presidents.

Hong leaves behind his wife, Jenny, and a teenage son and daughter.

His family said they are grateful for the outpouring of love and support.

“Andrew was magnetic. He was a man of steel on the outside with a warm teddy bear personality on the inside. His personality was larger than life,” the family said in a statement.

“He loved his Police family and was so proud to be a member of the Toronto Police Service, and especially loved being part of the Motor Unit.”

Hong’s family is asking for privacy at this time.

Toronto police spokeswoman Stephanie Sayer says planning for Hong’s funeral is currently underway and that the force is working closely with his family regarding their wishes.

Hong’s motorcycle is being cleaned and polished to be displayed in the front lobby of traffic services in Toronto, where people will be able to visit and sign a book of condolences.

Both Ashraf and Hong were killed by an active shooter, who also shot and injured three others across Mississauga and Milton.

The gunman then fled to Hamilton, where he was shot and killed by police in the Hamilton Cemetery.
