22-year-old man arrested following hate crime in Hamilton

Hamilton police have arrested a 22-year-old man from Hamilton after a hate crime in Westdale.
On Sept. 6. at around 12:40 a.m., police say he broke into a residence in the area of Haddon Avenue South and Main Street West, targeting members of the Jewish Community.
As a result, 22-year-old Yonis Mohamed has been charged with break and enter and disobeying court order.
Police say the incident has been reviewed by the Hate Crime Unit and is being investigated as a hate crime. A hate crime is a criminal offence committed against a person which is motivated by hate or bias or prejudice based on race, national or ethnic origin, language, colour, religion, sex, age, mental or physical disability, sexual orientation, or any other similar factors.
Police are working with the victims, the Jewish Federation of Hamilton and community members to ensure their safety.
