Nearly a year after a fatal hit and run in Waterdown, a $20,000 reward is now being offered for new information.

No one has been arrested for the death of 76-year-old Wayne Miller, but his brother Jim hopes the money encourages new witnesses to come forward.

Jim was raised by his brother Wayne and Wayne’s wife Dianne from the age of ten.

Jim and Wayne stayed close their whole lives, until September 17, 2021, when Wayne was struck and killed in a hit and run in Waterdown while walking a route along Centre Road by Joe Sams Park.

On the night of the 17th, Wayne, a beloved former school teacher in Waterdown, walked alone, something he often did as an avid walker.

65-year-old trucker Cliff Hogan heard the collision from his backyard and ran out to see what had happened.

Hogan didn’t want to go on camera, but holding back tears he tells CHCH News that he ran to Wayne and says he administered CPR for what felt like at least ten minutes before the ambulance arrived.

Hogan says he saw a white Nissan SUV speed off and believes it was the vehicle that hit Wayne, but he didn’t see who was driving or catch the license plate. Hogan says Wayne died right here in front of him. Others in the area say they saw a red sedan.

Police released a Crime Stoppers video appealing for witnesses last November, but the investigation has yet to catch the person responsible, so a former student has put up a $20,000 reward for information.

Jim has a message for the person who struck his brother, “we would just like you to come forward, be a man, go to the police. You’re alive, you got your whole life ahead of you, come forward,”
