COVID-19 vaccine bookings for babies, toddlers open in Ontario today

Young children in Ontario are able to receive a COVID-19 vaccine today.

As of 8 a.m., parents can book an appointment for their children between the ages of six months and five years old.

Clinics for the youngest age group are scheduled to ramp up across the province in the coming days and some are planning to host appointments today.

Hamilton Public Health Services and its healthcare partners said they are prepared to vaccinate the nearly 27,000 young children within that age group in the city.

The health unit said children who have tested positive for COVID-19 should wait eight weeks before getting their shot.

It said children who are receiving other pediatric vaccines should wait to get their COVID-19 shot at least 14 days before or after.

Health Canada approved the use of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine for children between six months and five years old on July 14.
