The Sex Workers’ Action Program in Hamilton held a vigil earlier tonight for a woman who was sexually assaulted two weeks ago on Barton Street East.

A mother is heartbroken by the senseless beating and sexual assault of her daughter.
“She received nine broken bones in her face and broke her jaw, her nose”, Marie said.

The mother was joined by dozens of Hamiltonians tonight, who came together for a vigil to show their support for her and her daughter.

Police have arrested 24-year-old Gbenga Obajuluwa and charged him with aggravated sexual assault, alleging he is the man responsible.

Police say her 46-year-old daughter was attacked in the alley near Barton Street East and Emerald Avenue in the early morning of June 27th.

The Sex Workers’ Action Program of Hamilton organized the event and raised about $9,000 from the community to help this mother from Woodstock stay in Hamilton to be with her daughter on her long road to recovery.

Detectives are asking anyone who believes they have information relevant to the investigation to contact them.
