Hamilton police are investigating after a man allegedly assaulted a woman on the Hamilton Mountain.

Police said the woman was walking in the area of Upper Paradise and Donnici Dr. Wednesday morning when she was approached by an unknown man and allegedly “dragged off the trail.”

Officers said the man then assaulted her but witnesses in the area stopped him.

The suspect, who reportedly fled on foot, is described as a man between 18 and 24 years old, who is approximately six feet tall, 175 lbs, with black curly hair and dressed in a navy blue T-shirt, dark baggy jogging pants and carrying a crossbody bag.

Given the unprovoked nature of the alleged attack, police are encouraging the public to take extra precautions when using trails or walking paths within the city.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Sgt. Jennifer Currie at 905-546-4962 or Det. Const. Shannon McLean at 905-546-4614.
