A fire on the Stoney Creek Mountain could be seen across the city and beyond on Monday.

At around 4:00 p.m., a new building construction site near Upper Red Hill Valley Parkway and Rymal Road caught fire. Twenty-three homes yet to be completed were entirely destroyed.

Hamilton Fire Chief Dave Cunliffe says roughly 70 firefighters were deployed to extinguish the blaze.

There are no reported injuries and workers were evacuated from the site.

Fire and police services are investigating together and the office of the Fire Marshall has been notified.
