Niagara police investigate over 50 bottles with ‘yellow fluid’ thrown on properties

Niagara police are investigating multiple incidents of plastic bottles containing an unknown yellow fluid being thrown onto residents’ properties.
Since May, more than 50 incidents have occurred across Niagara-on-the-Lake, Grimsby, Niagara Falls, St. Catharines, Thorold, Pelham and Welland.
Officers said they happened overnight. The residents then awake to find a plastic bottle with the unknown yellow fluid on their property, sometimes in the backyard.
The forensic service unit determined that the fluid is not explosive, but caution is recommended.
Police are asking people to minimize their contact with the bottle until police arrive or provide other directions.
Investigators believe it may be a vetting technique by criminals to determine whether a person is at home.
Members of the public who find a bottle of yellow fluid on their property or may have suspect information are asked to call their non-emergency number 905-688-4111 “dispatch” to report it.
People who wish to report an incident of a bottle of yellow fluid on their property but have no suspect information and have already disposed of the bottle are asked to submit an online report.
Anyone with information is asked to contact our officers at 905-688-4111, ext. 1022200.
