Ambulance transporting patient involved in head-on collision in Hamilton

Hamilton police are investigating a head-on collision involving an ambulance that was transporting a patient.

Hamilton EMS were originally called to Airport Road near Hamilton airport for a pedestrian requiring medical attention Tuesday morning.

While transporting the patient, the ambulance collided head-on with a black SUV at the intersection of Upper James and Airport Road.

Two paramedics were sent to hospital with non-life threatening injuries as a result.

The 44-year-old man who was the patient in the back of the ambulance is in hospital in serious condition but is expected to survive. Paramedics say he suffered no further injuries in the crash.

Hamilton paramedics would like to thank all who offered support in this crash.

Upper James has since reopened.
