Hamilton police arrest man and seize explosive device

Hamilton police have arrested a man and seized an explosive device on Sunday.

Police say a 50-year-old man uttered threats and had an explosive in the area of Ottawa Street North and Cannon Street East shortly before 7:30 p.m.

The area was secured, roadway closed and a portion of street residents were evacuated and the remaining were placed in shelter.

The Explosive Disposal Unit was called in, examined the device and safely recovered it.

The 50-year-old Hamilton man has been charged with making or possessing explosives for unlawful purpose and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.
