Niagara police have arrested a man after he fled a traffic stop in St. Catharines.

On June 16, at around 8:45 a.m., a police officer was in the area of Woodrow Street and Dunvegan Road. Police say the officer saw a 2008 grey Cadillac CTS fail to stop at a stop sign.

The officer pulled the Cadillac over. The man driving did not have a driver’s licence on him and he provided the officer with a fake name and date of birth. When the officer questioned the driver further about his identity, police say the man fled the traffic stop.

The man struck a police cruiser and narrowly missed a pedestrian walking on Dunvegan Road and then hit a concrete support pole. The damaged Cadillac came to a stop and the driver ran into a nearby wooded area.

Police say numerous officers responded to the area and at 9:00 a.m., the man was located and arrested near Carriage Road and Rampart Drive.

Officers discovered that the man’s licence had been suspended and he was wanted for failing to comply with a release order and failing to comply with probation.

As a result, 24-year-old Corey Davidson of Thorold has been arrested and charged with multiple offences including flight from police and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle among others.

Police are asking anyone with information about this incident to contact them at 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1024233.
