Hamilton man found guilty of careless driving in relation to pedestrian death in 2019

A Hamilton man has been found guilty of careless driving in relation to a crash that killed a Hamilton man and seriously injured a Hamilton woman on Dec. 28, 2019.
The decision was released May 10. Justice of the peace Donald Duder found Scott Watson guilty of two Highway Act (HTA) offences, careless driving causing bodily harm and carless driving causing bodily harm.
In December, 2019, Watson was driving a motorcycle around 5:00 p.m. when he struck 69-year-old Berkley James Wood and his elderly mother as they crossed Mohawk Rd. near Upper Gage Ave.
Wood later died in hospital and his 89-year-old mother sustained serious injuries.
The pair was on a routine walk from their home to a Food Basics plaza with the assistance of walkers.
The court heard over a four-day trial last November that Watson was driving over the speed limit when the incident occurred.
