Fire destroys 4 businesses in Thorold, millions of dollars in damage

Four businesses in Thorold were destroyed by a fire causing millions of dollars in damage.
Firefighters battled the blaze for ten hours on Beaverdams Road in Thorold on Tuesday.
Staff from 406 Auto Parts tells CHCH News a young man was working on a car in the scrap yard when he came out yelling that there was a fire. They immediately called 9-1-1.
The building was built in the 1940s and has always been running as an auto shop. Owners say there was highly combustible equipment on site.
Thorold Fire says, “Once it gets into the roof and it’s a flat tire roof the roof and collapses it was very complicated so we were able to bring in heavy equipment to pull the roof apart to be able to extinguish the fire.”
Investigators are still trying to determine how the fire started but they do not believe any foul play was involved.
Damage estimated at around three million dollars.
