A large fire near the QEW in Grimsby causes significant damage to a townhome

A Grimsby townhome has significant damage after a large fire took place. A woman and her children were inside at the time, but thanks to a neighbour, they were able to get out.
Grimsby’s deputy fire chief says the destruction in this home is severe, estimating 750-thousand-dollars in damage after the fire appears to have ignited in the garage.
Just after 1 pm, Grimsby fire says a neighbor knocked on the door of the townhome on Livingston Avenue, where a mother and two young children who live there were inside. They were not aware of the fire until the neighbor showed up. The deputy chief suggested that was because the flames were coming from the garage. Other people nearby saw the smoke and came to try and help.
Everyone involved got out safely before firefighters arrived and Grimsby fire was able to put the blaze out quickly, and mostly contain it to the home.
One of the neighboring homes suffered some damage.
The deputy fire chief says while fires in the town don’t happen often, they’ve seen more recently something he attributes to the pandemic.
