Hamilton Conservation Authority warns of coyotes in and around Eramosa Karst Conservation Area

The Hamilton Conservation Authority (HCA) is asking people to be cautious of coyotes at Eramosa Karst Conservation Area.

It says coyotes showing signs of protecting its territory have been reported in the area, specifically in the northern area near the intersections of the Orange and Blue Trails, alongside the Nexus Cave area.

Dog walkers are being asked to avoid the area because dogs may be seen as a theat by coyotes to their home territory.

Walkers are also being advised to avoid the area for the time being until more is known.

“The HCA is asking hikers and especially dog walkers to avoid the area for now and let wildlife feel safe in their home,” said Gord Costie, Director of Customer Services at HCA, in a statement. “At times the wildlife in our conservation areas needs space from people and their pets.”

The Conservation Area staff will be monitoring the area. Signs have been posted in the Conservation area advising visitors of the reported coyote behavior.
