Extreme cold warning in effect for parts of Southern Ontario

An extreme cold warning is in effect Monday with temperatures expected to drop in parts of Southern Ontario.
Environment Canada says Halton Region will experience a period of very cold wind chills that will make it feel close to -30 C.
Those at greater risk from the cold temperatures include young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.
Residents are asked to watch for cold-related symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.
The weather agency suggests dressing in warm layers that you can remove if you get too warm. The outer layer should be wind resistant.
Pet owners are also being reminded that if it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside.
