Niagara police have charged a 22-year-old man in connection with a terrifying armed robbery that was captured on the surveillance camera of a St. Catharines home last month.

Shortly after 7 a.m. on Dec. 28, police say a man was heading out the door of his home in the area of Ernest St. and Dorothy St.

The victim noticed a car stopped in front of his house and a person exiting the vehicle.

Investigators say the man thought nothing of it and turned back to walk inside when a person armed with a black pistol confronted him at his doorstep.

The interaction was captured on a nearby surveillance camera and appears to show a person wearing a mask and a hooded sweatshirt running up to the front door of the home and telling the man to hand over the keys to his Range Rover which was parked in the driveway.

Police say the victim was hit with a pistol during the confrontation.

He handed over the keys to the suspect, who threw them to a second person in the driveway.

Police say the second suspect stole the Land Rover and left the area heading towards Dorothy St. while the other suspect fled in another vehicle.

On Thursday, Niagara police say detectives were able to determine both vehicles left Niagara Region on the QEW.

The stolen Land Rover was later recovered on Jan. 3 in Toronto.

Police say detectives identified the person believed to have been holding the gun during the robbery. They say investigators learned he was already in custody in Toronto on unrelated charges.

Anthony Dass, 22, of North York is facing several charges including break and enter, disguise with intent as well as numerous weapons-related charges.

Police are still trying to determine the identity of the second suspect.
