Hamilton police have issued an arrest warrant for a 19-year-old woman after a vehicle struck two police officers at a RIDE lane check on New Year’s Eve.

Officers were conducting a RIDE program in the southbound lanes of the Claremont Access just before 11 p.m. on Dec. 31.

Police say a 2020 Sante Fe SUV pulled out of a RIDE check lane, drove through the checkpoint and struck two officers.

Both officers were knocked unconscious and suffered serious injuries. They were rushed to hospital where they remain.

Police believe the same SUV was involved in an incident earlier in the evening in the area of Fennell Ave. East and Hoover Cres. where officers approached a driver who was unconscious at the wheel.

When they attempted to place the driver under arrest, the vehicle fled and struck a cruiser before leaving the area. It was last seen driving southbound on Upper James St.

Hannah Pietrantuono, of Hamilton, is wanted for both hit-and-run incidents.

She is described as being five-foot-nine, 143 lbs with brown hair.

Pietrantuono faces a slew of charges including criminal negligence cause bodily harm, impaired operation, flight from peace officer and resist arrest.

Police are urging Pietrantuono to seek legal counsel and turn herself in at any Hamilton police station.
