HAPPENING NOW:
St. Catharines business receives provincial funding to create 30 jobs

The Ontario government is investing over $53 million in two southwestern Ontario companies, including a manufacturing business in St. Catharines.
Quick Plug CA Inc. is expected to receive $3.2 million from the province to modify its current facility, purchase new equipment and build a new manufacturing line.
“They’re an important part of the greenhouse supply chain,” St. Catharines Mayor Walter Sendzik said in an interview on Morning Live Thursday. “The unique work that they do goes into a lot of the floral goods that you’ll see in markets across North America.”
With Ontario’s investment of $480,000 from the Southwestern Ontario Development Fund, the company will create 30 new jobs.
With this investment, Quick Plug also plans to build a new research and development centre in their facility.
“It’s a growing company and a great example of the province coming together to drive innovation to help manufacturing,” Sendzik said.
Valbruna ASW Inc. is the other business expected to receive $50 million from the Ontario government.
It is Canada’s only manufacturer of specialty steel products, including carbon, alloy and stainless steel.
The company is investing the money in new innovative equipment and facility upgrades.
With Ontario’s investment of more than $4.4 million from the Southwestern Ontario Development Fund, Valbruna ASW will create 15 jobs.
