Wine expert Angela Aiello continues to take us virtually around the world to explore wine countries.

Aiello joined Annette Hamm on Morning Live to highlight the world’s skinniest country with dynamic and premium wines– Chile.

Located in western South America, Chile has 2,700 miles of coastline and is only 110 miles wide.

The country is protected on all sides by four “geographic bodyguards,” including the Atacama Desert in the north, Andes Mountains in the east, Patagonia in the south and Pacific Ocean in the west.

Another feature unique to this Latin country is that 83 per cent of their wine is sustainably made. Certified Sustainable is a voluntary tool that looks to incorporate practices based on high social, environmental and quality standards in vinicultural companies.

Chile grows grapes to produce an average of 26 per cent white wine and 74 per cent red wine, with Cabernet Sauvignon being the most commonly planted grape.

But the country is also a major source for grapes you may not be as familiar with, such as Carménère. This is the signature grape in Chile and creates a light-bodied wine, with juicy plum and black cherry coupled with unique savory flavours of black pepper and baking spice.

If you’re looking to try a Chilean wine, the LCBO is offering 15 different wines from Chile on sale until the end of February.
