Tim Bolen visited Portage Bakery Inc. in Niagara Falls for a tasty time.

Portage Bakery Inc. opened in 1934 and is the longest running family bakery in the Niagara Region, operated now by Rosario Barone and his wife Jolantha, children, and grandchildren.

Rosario took over the bakery in 1971 after working there for years in the early morning baking bread; that recipe is still used to this day and it is baked in the original ovens!

Besides bread, Portage Bakery on Gladstone Drive offers pastries, cookies, cakes, sandwiches and other hot dishes such as lasagna, along with imported Italian grocery items.

Tim Bolen tried some of their baked goods and learned more of how this family run bakery has lasted for 50 years.
