Police are investigating a fire that took place at a West Lincoln home Thursday night after finding a man dead inside the burned residence.

Niagara regional police and West Lincoln Fire responded to a fire at a home near Caistor Centre Road and Concession Road 5.

Police told CHCH News that they arrived at the home at around 5:30 p.m.

Officers had posted on X after 6:40 p.m. asking the public to avoid the area during their investigation.

Detectives say there was a structural fire at a residence in the area, before firefighters doused the flames.

Investigators found a man inside the home after the fire was extinguished. Emergency crews declared the man dead at the scene.

Niagara police are working with the Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office and the Coroner’s Office to investigate.

Officers have not determined the cause of the fire, but told CHCH News that no one else was home during the time of the fire.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
