Employee at St. Catharines Collegiate charged with sexual assault

Niagara regional police arrested an employee from St. Catharines Collegiate Wednesday following a sexual assault investigation.

Police began an investigation Sept. 12, into the report of an alleged sexual assault at St. Catharines Collegiate on 34 Catherine Street in the City of St. Catharines.

Investigators say a caretaker from the school had touched a student under the age of 16 years old in a sexual manner on campus during school hours.

Detectives arrested 56-year-old Lawrence Paroyan from St. Catharines Wednesday and have charged him with sexual assault and sexual interference.

Paroyan was held in custody pending a bail hearing scheduled to happen Thursday at a St. Catharines courthouse.

Officers say they have reason to believe there may be more victims and will continue to investigate.
