GoFundMe page taken down for Simcoe woman charged with assault with a water gun

A GoFundMe campaign set up for a Simcoe woman charged with assault after her neighbour was sprayed with a water gun has been shut down.

Wendy Washik’s family set up the GoFundMe in an effort to raise funds to pay for the lawyer fees after she was charged with assault for accidently spraying her neighbour with a water gun during a Labour Day party on Sept. 1.

Since then, Washik has been suspended from her job as an educational assistant with pay and is waiting to hear back from the board on if and when her job will be reinstated.

“Never in my life would I think this,” Washik said. “I’m just astounded, shocked. Every morning I wake up and I still can’t believe it.”

A GoFundMe was launched in an effort to raise legal funds for Washik, but it was taken down on Thursday.

It was allegedly violating GoFundMe’s policy of raising funds for “the legal defence of financial and violent crimes including…assault.”

Residents in the area tell CHCH News that this isn’t the first time the neighbour has called the police on someone.

CHCH News knocked on the door of the man who was sprayed with the water gun to get his reaction to the situation, but there was no response.

The case will be in front of the court on Sept. 24.
